Happy Father’s Day
Second Annual Abbotsford Dad’s Celebration
On Sunday, in the midst of all our family celebrations for grads and dads, some families got to play in the sunshine and the waterpark beside Mill Lake. There were more people, more activities and more sunshine than last year. Check out these photos.
UFV gives honorary degree to Canadian rocker Bif Naked
Here is the opening paragraph from our universities March 2013 website post: Canadian punk rocker and motivational speaker (no, that is not an oxymoron) Bif Naked spoke to an enthusiastic crowd on International Women’s Day about the struggles women are faced with, and the power of friendships to help them through tough times. I wrote about Bif Naked’s great speech here. International Women’s Day has been observed everywhere since the early 1900’s, which was a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies. At the end of her presentation, UFV president Mark Evered announced that Naked would receive an honorary degree from UFV. This June photo proves she did.
Almost a century after the first International Women’s Day, the first International Men’s Day was celebrated in Trinidad and Tobago on November 19, 1999. Since it carries positive goals including promoting gender equality, men’s health, gender relations, and positive male role models, International Men’s Day became popular in many other nations. Currently, the day is celebrated in more than 60 countries around the world. Who would be a good speaker for International Men’s Day on Tuesday, November 19, 2013?
Social media is filling up with other grad photos from Abbotsford’s eight high schools and all the families celebrating in June.
